Dark Side: Inviting you to a glimpse of my dark side. (Viewer discretion is advised.)
Sometimes, I willingly walk into the dark side, sit with the shadows of disturbing realities, and then thank them for the experience given and the strength I have gained for such experiences, and then I leave closing that door until the next meeting …Today is one of those days.
Oh, believe me, myself and several groups of artists have paintings regarding this hole in our society, paintings that perhaps will never see the light of day. But as a child survivor of physical and sexual abuse, this topic still resides in the shadows of my life and will use my art to expose such actions.
Because predators are not always strangers but sadly and disturbingly close friends and family members... as a society, we remain silent and pretend that sweeping abuse under an 'imaginary rug' or 'hiding it in the closet' will make it non-existent.
As an artist and art advocate, I, along with other artists, have spent years searching, proposing, and imploring our local cities to host an art exhibit raising consciousness on this topic: 'Voices for the Innocent,' to raise awareness and honor the victims and survivors.
Our efforts to secure a venue for such an exhibit have been unsuccessful, which is unsettling but a harsh reality. I believe that with the support of a sponsor or foundation willing to provide a venue, this exhibit could come to fruition.
For now, I am displaying art by myself and my friend Terese Daniels as a visual expression of the sense of helplessness that arises, especially when actions come from organizations meant to protect the innocent, such as the one mentioned below.
If you are an artist and would like to participate in this online awareness please contact me privately to discuss details.
